Description
Denis McLaughlin is a big name in Irish folk music. He is from Derry, Ireland, and settled in Southern Jutland back in the 1980s.
He quickly became a leading Irish musician in the Danish and European folk scene
and has since inspired several generations of Danish folk musicians. Denis sings with a very strong and beautiful voice—quiet ballads, his own songs, and the well-known pub songs everyone joins in on. He accompanies himself (the band) on guitar, octave mandola, banjo, bodhrán, and bones.
Pia Nygaard graduated as a folk musician from the University of Southern Denmark’s music conservatory and acting school in 2010. She knew very little about the Irish folk genre when she met Denis in 2008 at the Strib Winter Festival. Since meeting Denis, she has become a valued part of the Irish folk scene in Denmark. She colours the music in many shades with her soft, crisp tone—both in her voice and on the violin.
Sune Christiansen has, over the past fifteen years, delved deep into Irish musical traditions. With his great passion for the music and through several stays in Ireland, he has found his own raw voice and rich sound on banjo, tin whistle, and bodhrán. Sune’s musical mentor was Barney McKenna from the world-renowned band The Dubliners.
Together, the three seasoned musicians make up the band ‘Culchie’, with more than 60 years of combined experience as performing musicians.
Culchie performs concerts at home and abroad and will travel in 2024, among other places, to Germany and the Netherlands to present their interpretation of traditional Irish folk music.
The concert takes place on Friday, 05 June 2026 at 7:30 PM at Fary Lochan.
Doors open at 6:45 PM.
The concert is expected to end at 9:30 PM.
Additional drinks can be purchased at the bar.
Come and enjoy a great musical evening at Fary Lochan!
See you.
